Eugene Fregetto, PhD - Clinical Associate Professor of Marketing at University of Illinois at Chicago (retired), taught entrepreneurship and marketing courses at the UIC and DePaul University since 1982. During his academic career, Dr. Fregetto taught seventeen different marketing and entrepreneurship courses and created four new courses, including online courses. He received his PhD from the School of Urban Planning and Policy at UIC, MBA in Marketing from DePaul University, a BA in Journalism from Marquette University, and an Associate degree in Architecture and Structure Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In 1985, Dr. Fregetto co-developed a graduate school program in entrepreneurship with Dr. Harold Welsch, professor of management at DePaul University. At that time, it was the 4th program of its kind in the country. Dr. Fregetto’s current research interests include minority and ethnic entrepreneurship including preferential government contracting programs, assessment of entrepreneurship education programs, and examining the conceptual development of entrepreneurship. The publication of his research includes a chapter in Entrepreneurship: The Way Ahead, publications in the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, The Journal of Enterprising Culture, and numerous conference proceedings for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Fregetto has served on the following editorial boards: Journal of Small Business Strategy , Asean Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, Journal of Ethics and Entrepreneurship, Journal of International Migrations and Integration, and American Journal of Theoretical and Applied Business; in addition, he has served the academic community in numerous Vice President and chair positions for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship earning recognition for meritorious service as a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow. Dr. Fregetto brings his extensive professional experience to his students; an experience that includes a 25-year career as a government contract officer, administrative agent for a statewide consortium, and community services, such as, student consulting teams working with local businesses and co-founding of a non-profit corporation. Dr. Fregetto’s latest endeavors include working with the students and faculty at the University of Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka to contribute his knowledge and skills to help them in the development of entrepreneurship education in Sri Lanka.
