ICSB Sunday Times Editor’s note:
Grab your coffee, this week we celebrate milestones shaping entrepreneurship worldwide. We honor Dr. Katia Passerini’s inauguration as the 27th President of Gonzaga University, where her themes—Open Doors, Empower Potential, Lead with Hope—echo ICSB’s mission. On the global stage, Poland has crossed the $1 trillion GDP mark, entering the world’s top 20 economies exactly 1,000 years after its first king’s coronation. New research in JICSB reveals how entrepreneurial marketing drives competitive strategy, with cost leadership providing the most potent competitive edge. And our new ICSB AI Certificate launches this week, equipping MSMEs to turn AI into a practical advantage. Together, these stories spotlight leadership, innovation, and resilience at the core of global progress.

In 2025, Poland crossed the symbolic $1 trillion GDP threshold, securing its place as the 20th largest economy in the world. The timing is striking: this milestone comes exactly 1,000 years after the coronation of Poland’s first king in 1025. As the G20 convenes in Rio de Janeiro, Poland is making a spirited bid to join the exclusive club of the world’s largest economies. The case for inclusion is now stronger than ever. Between 1994 and 2014, Poland’s economy expanded at an average annual rate of 4.2%, earning the moniker “European Tiger.” Even during the global financial crisis of 2008–2009, Poland stood out as the only EU economy that did not experience a recession.

AI and the Punctuated Revolution
Ecosystem success depends on being bottom-up, inclusive, and people-focused—trust and connectors matter more than top-down institutions. Effective strategies emphasize strengths, embrace disruption, and recognize that ecosystems thrive as networks of networks, not under a single “big tent.” Ultimately, advancing both human and social capital, supported by the right metrics and entrepreneurial culture, drives long-term growth and resilience. ICSB 70th Anniversary – From ICSB History Book
Early focus on research-sharing – In its early decades, ICSB served primarily as a scholarly exchange forum, with annual meetings where academics presented studies on small firms, long before entrepreneurship became a mainstream academic field.
First international expansion in the 1970s – ICSB grew beyond the United States by connecting with European partners, marking the start of its transformation into a truly global organization with affiliates across continents.
