Breaking Barriers: Women’s Impact and Empowerment in Medicine

Beyond Boundaries: Pioneering Women Shaping the Future of Medicine

Get ready to mark your calendars for March 8th as we gear up to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with a themed webinar titled “Women in Medicine.” With a legacy of over a century, IWD stands as a beacon of global commitment to gender equality and women empowerment. It transcends boundaries, cultures, and backgrounds, uniting millions worldwide to honor the invaluable contributions of women.

Aligned with the United Nations’ 2024 theme, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress,” our webinar is set to pay tribute to the extraordinary women who have made indelible marks in medicine. Their unwavering dedication, unparalleled expertise, and tireless efforts have transformed healthcare and propelled societal advancement. Their journey is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of gender equity and empowerment.

This event follows our successful March 8th events in previous years, including our 2023 event with the theme of “The Impact of Women Scholars on the Entrepreneurial Landscape” and our 2022 event titled the “Women Entrepreneurial Leadership Impact Conference.” These conferences underscore our unwavering commitment to elevating the efforts of women across various domains.

The entrepreneurial spirit among women continues to soar, with recent data indicating a significant rise in women-owned businesses globally. According to studies, women entrepreneurs launch businesses at a rate of more than 1,800 per day in the United States alone, contributing trillions to the economy. These statistics highlight the pivotal role of women in driving innovation, job creation, and economic growth.

Additionally, we’re thrilled to share the momentous news that the Albert Einstein College of Medicine will now offer tuition-free education for all students, thanks to a historic $1 billion gift from former faculty member and board chair Ruth Gottesman. This transformative donation, supported by Ruth Gottesman and her late husband, David “Sandy” Gottesman, reflects their enduring commitment to medical education and community advancement. It’s not a coincidence that Ruth Gottesman’s mobilization for women in education aligns with our webinar theme, and we’re delighted that our focus resonates with this historic news.

At ICSB, we take immense pride in witnessing the fruition of our 2023 efforts, as more attention is now being directed toward women entrepreneurs. Our initiative to spotlight the significance of women in entrepreneurship wasn’t merely to initiate dialogue but to catalyze a transformative shift in the entrepreneurial landscape.

The recent recognition of Claudia Goldin’s groundbreaking work with the Nobel Prize underscores the pressing need to address, discuss, and resolve gender disparities in the labor market. This recognition aligns with our mission and further validates our choice of theme for MSMEs Day in 2023.

So, mark your calendars, spread the word, and stay tuned for more exciting details! Together, let’s celebrate the remarkable women who continue to drive progress and inspire change in medicine.
