ICSB Sunday Times Editor’s note: Pour yourself a café au lait, because this week’s ICSB Sunday Times takes you to Paris, where the ICSB–OECD Signature Event ignited a global Call for Action under “Allyship in Action.” Global leaders launched the OECD–GWEP Report on Bridging the Finance Gap, urging smarter and fairer access to opportunity for entrepreneurs worldwide. Guided by Dr. Winslow Sargeant, Dr. Ayman ElTarabishy, and Dr. Rico Baldegger, discussions highlighted how AI, finance, and digital ecosystems can fuel inclusive growth. Day 2 focused on five research priorities—systemic transformation, ecosystem design, future-ready skills, digital equality, and entrepreneurship in context—marking a shift toward human-centered systems. With Amazon’s insights on SME empowerment and Dr. ElTarabishy’s call for “platforms built with entrepreneurs, not for them,” Paris became the beating heart of a new era in global entrepreneurship. 🇫🇷 — Dr. Ayman ElTarabishy

In Paris this week, the International Council for Small Business and the OECD convened global leaders for the ICSB Signature Event under the banner “Allyship in Action.” The gathering marked a shift from awareness to measurable change, urging policymakers and investors to close the persistent financial and structural gaps facing women entrepreneurs. The OECD–GWEP report unveiled striking disparities in access to funding, even as participants highlighted how artificial intelligence and digital platforms are redefining opportunity. Speakers from Amazon, Cartier, and UNCTAD described a new era of entrepreneurship in which collaboration, mentorship, and digital inclusion replace hierarchy. As ICSB President Dr. Ayman ElTarabishy concluded, “The next step is partnership—platforms built with entrepreneurs, not for them.” Read More

AI-driven digital ventures: How perceived AI competencies and self-efficacy shape digital entrepreneurial intention
This study reveals that students’ perceived AI competencies and AI-related self-efficacy significantly boost their digital entrepreneurial intentions by increasing their perceptions of the desirability and feasibility of starting a tech-driven venture. AI readiness directly shapes entrepreneurial cognition—particularly through perceived feasibility. This is important because it underscores how AI education and confidence-building programs can strengthen the next generation of digital entrepreneurs Read More).

GLOBAL INSIGHTS
From Italy: Unmasking the Review Mill: How Hidden Networks Threaten Scientific Integrity—and What Entrepreneurship Research Can Learn from It
Researchers uncovered a coordinated peer-review manipulation network allegedly led by Italian physicians, responsible for 195 suspect reviews across major medical journals. The group produced boilerplate reports and forced authors to cite their own papers to inflate citation counts, compromising both scientific integrity and patient safety. Because most journals lack open peer review, such “review mills” remain largely undetectable. The case underscores the urgent need for transparency, automated checks, and open editorial processes—principles as vital to academic credibility as they are to entrepreneurship research, where trust and accountability drive innovation.

Creative Reconstruction: Seoul and the Battle for AI’s Soul
In Seoul, a gathering of entrepreneurs and scholars reframed the global debate on artificial intelligence as a choice between two futures — The Matrix or Star Wars. One envisions humans becoming servants of their own technology; the other, a world where innovation amplifies human creativity and values. The city’s embrace of human-centered entrepreneurship, grounded in Korean philosophical traditions of harmony, compassion, and public good, offers a model for balancing progress with purpose. This perspective is critical now: as AI accelerates, the real test will not be technological capability but whether humanity retains control of the story it is writing. (read more)

ICSB 70th Anniversary – From ICSB History Book
1️⃣ ICSB’s Expansion into Asia began in the early 2000s, driven by partnerships with universities and government agencies in South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia. This marked the Council’s shift from a primarily Western network to a truly global organization connecting research, policy, and practice in entrepreneurship.
2️⃣ In 2016, under the leadership of Dr. Ki-Chan Kim, ICSB formally introduced the concept of Humane and Human-Centered Entrepreneurship in Seoul — an idea that became the foundation of the Jinju International Forum on Entrepreneurship, launched in 2023 by Dr. Ayman ElTarabishy and the Mayor of Jinju.
3️⃣ ICSB Asia has since hosted multiple global milestones, including the ICSB World Congress in Taipei (2011 and 2018) and the ICSB Signature Events in Seoul (2025), where the focus on human-centered entrepreneurship, MSME policy innovation, and university-industry collaboration has positioned Asia as a global model for inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurial development.
