This year, the conference will be held at both University of Salerno and in Ravello at “Villa Rufolo”. The University of Salerno is ideally linked to the oldest academic institution in the Old Continent: the Schola Medica Salernitana. Founded in the Eighth Century AD, the School reached its peak between the 10th and 13th century. Closed by royal decree in 1811 under Joachim Murat’s Napoleonic government, the School earned Salerno the title of Hippocratica Civitas (City of Hippocrates) after the famous Greek physician and treatise writer. Today the University – which currently counts around 40,000 students – has a very large catchment area including, Campania, the Italian regions of Basilicata, Calabria and Apulia. Since 1987, the University has had its headquarters in the town of Fisciano, a few kilometers from Salerno in the Irno Valley, at the junction of motorway intersections that make it central and easy to reach. The “Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017″, ranks the University of Salerno in the top 400 worldwide, placing it first in Southern Italy, and 69th among the Young Universities. Similarly, in the ranking on university quality developed annually by “Il Sole 24 ORE”, the most important economic newspaper in Italy, University of Salerno is ranked 15th, this showing the highest growth in the past year and confirming its position as the first university in the Centre-South of Italy out of 61 national universities. Ravello is a small village situated above the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno, Campania, southern Italy, with approximately 2,500 inhabitants. Its scenic location makes it a popular tourist destination, and earned it a listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. “Villa Rufolo” original construction, whose ancient function was that of watch-tower, is located in the centre of the village and dates from 1200AD. Villa Rufolo, which overlooks the Piazza Vescovado, is the historical and cultural center of Ravello. The atmosphere of the place has been marked by the thousand years of Arab cultural influence. The main building, comprising a barrel-vaulted chapel and a reception hall, divided by massive, low columns, is built on three levels, which in the past hosted high ranking persons among whom Pope Adrian IV and King Robert of Anjou. The enchantment of Villa Rufolo reaches its peak in its famous garden loved by Wagner. Overhanging the sea is the terrace where every year the Ravello Music Festival is celebrated.

From Naples: A3 motorway (Napoli-Salerno-Reggio Calabria); continue towards the south and take the freeway Salerno-Avellino; continue towards Avellino and exit at University, at the roundabout turn right and continue to the right.
From Naples: Motorway A16 (Napoli-Bari); from barrier East Naples merge onto A30 (Caserta-Salerno), direction Salerno, and go up the ramp to Avellino. Shortly after entering on the motorway Salerno-Avellino, exit at Fisciano-Mercato San Severino; at the end of the exit go to the right.
From the East (Bari): Motorway A16 (Bari-Napoli); exit Avellino East and take the freeway Avellino Square-Salerno; exit at Fisciano -Mercato San Severino; at the end of the exit go to the right.
From the South (Reggio Calabria): Motorway A3 (Salerno-Reggio Calabria-Naples); before Salerno take the fork for the A1 and A16 motorways, and, continuing in the direction Avellino, exit at University, at the roundabout turn right and continue to the right.
